Art Mentorship Program

Participatory Action Art Mentorship Program (Animation, Architecture, Design)

With the support and guidance from the Netter Center, Sayre High School, and wonderful art mentors team, our team founded the Particiaptory Art Mentorship Program, a weekly after school program at Sayre High School that offers under-resourced high school students the opportunity to explore, learn, and create artwork in the realm of animation, architecture, and design.

The project addresses the issues of inadequate and unequal education in West Philadelphia. Collaborating with the Netter Center and Sayre HIgh School, the program aims to offer high school students the opportunity to:

  • Explore and learn about animation and film production, architecture, and design
  • Develop skills in using art-related software and explore various mediums through a series of projects, create artwork (e.g. animated films, live-action films, architecture models, graphic designs) to share their stories and narratives
  • Present their work in end-of-year exhibitions
  • Explore career opportunities by connecting with industry professionals.

Outcomes:

  • Organized 35 mentorship sessions, three exhibition, three meetings with industry professionals, and one art sale.
  • Collaborating with educational insitutions and 12 art mentors.
  • Developing a 15-week seminar for Philadelphia School Destrict teachers to integrate animation into their curriculum.
